Common use

Prilox Cream is commonly used for the symptomatic relief of pain associated with conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle strains, sprains, and tendonitis. It is also applied prior to minor dermatological procedures to minimize discomfort. Patients with chronic back pain, neck pain, or sports-related injuries may find it particularly beneficial. Always use under medical supervision for appropriate indications.

Dosage and direction

Apply a thin layer of Prilox Cream to the affected area up to three times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. Gently massage into the skin until fully absorbed. Do not apply on broken skin, open wounds, or mucous membranes. Wash hands thoroughly after application unless the hands are the treated area. The maximum recommended duration of continuous use is 14 days unless advised otherwise by a physician.

Precautions

  • For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, nose, mouth, and other sensitive areas.
  • Do not apply under tight bandages or occlusive dressings unless directed by a healthcare provider.
  • Discontinue use if irritation, rash, or hypersensitivity occurs.
  • Consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have pre-existing skin conditions.
  • Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Contraindications

Prilox Cream is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine, prilocaine, or any other component of the formulation. It should not be used on large areas of skin, or by individuals with methemoglobinemia, severe liver impairment, or congenital or idiopathic methemoglobinemia. Avoid use in children under 12 years of age unless specifically prescribed.

Possible side effects

Common side effects may include mild and transient skin reactions such as redness, itching, or burning at the application site. Rarely, systemic absorption may lead to dizziness, headache, or tingling sensations. Allergic reactions, though uncommon, may present as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing and require immediate medical attention.

Drug interaction

Prilox Cream may interact with other topical products, antiarrhythmic drugs, or local anesthetics, potentially increasing the risk of systemic effects. Inform your healthcare provider if you are using class I antiarrhythmic agents such as mexiletine or tocainide. Concurrent use with other numbing agents or products containing similar ingredients should be avoided.

Missed dose

If a dose is missed, apply it as soon as remembered, unless it is almost time for the next application. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed application. Maintain a consistent schedule for optimal pain management.

Overdose

Excessive application or ingestion of Prilox Cream may lead to symptoms of systemic local anesthetic toxicity, including nervousness, dizziness, blurred vision, tremors, drowsiness, convulsions, or respiratory depression. In case of suspected overdose, seek immediate medical attention and avoid further application.

Storage

Store Prilox Cream at room temperature (15–30°C), away from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat. Keep the tube tightly closed when not in use. Do not freeze. Discard any expired or unused product appropriately and keep out of reach of children.
