Soolantra (ivermectin) Cream, 1% is a prescription-only topical medication specifically formulated for the treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea. It represents a significant advancement in dermatological therapy by targeting a suspected pathophysiological component of the disease. This cream is designed for once-daily application, offering a convenient and effective treatment regimen that reduces papules and pustules associated with this chronic cutaneous condition, thereby improving skin appearance and patient quality of life.

- Formulated in a light, non-comedogenic, oil-in-water emulsion base.
- Presented in a 30-gram or 45-gram pump tube for precise and hygienic dispensing.
- Designed for topical application only; not for oral, ophthalmic, or intravaginal use.
- Prescription-only medication, ensuring use under appropriate medical supervision.
Benefits

- Targets a suspected demodex mite component and exerts anti-inflammatory actions, addressing a potential root cause.
- Offers a simple, once-daily application, promoting excellent treatment adherence.
- Improves overall skin appearance, leading to enhanced patient self-esteem and quality of life.
- Features a cosmetically elegant, non-greasy formulation that is well-tolerated by sensitive skin.
- Provides a sustained treatment effect with continuous use over time.
Common use
Soolantra is indicated specifically for the topical treatment of inflammatory lesions of rosacea in adult patients. It is not indicated for other forms of rosacea, such as erythematotelangiectatic rosacea (characterized primarily by flushing and persistent redness) or phymatous rosacea. Its use is centered on managing the papulopustular component of the disease.
Dosage and direction
Apply a pea-sized amount of Soolantra Cream, 1% once daily to the entire affected areas of the face (forehead, chin, nose, and each cheek). Use only enough to cover the affected areas thinly and evenly. The cream should be applied to dry, clean skin. Avoid contact with the eyes, lips, and mucous membranes. Wash hands immediately after application. Cosmetic products may be applied after the cream has dried.
Precautions
For external use only. If irritation or hypersensitivity occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician. The safety and efficacy of Soolantra in pediatric patients under the age of 18 years have not been established. Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding should only be undertaken if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus or infant, following a consultation with a healthcare provider.
Contraindications
Soolantra is contraindicated in individuals with a known hypersensitivity to ivermectin or to any of the excipients in the formulation.
Possible side effects
The most common adverse reactions observed in clinical trials were skin-related and included:
- Skin burning sensation
- Skin irritation
- Pruritus (itching)
- Dry skin These reactions were typically mild to moderate in severity. As with any topical product, contact dermatitis and allergic reactions are possible.
Drug interaction
Formal drug interaction studies have not been conducted with topically applied ivermectin. Given the minimal systemic absorption (less than 1%) following topical application under maximal use conditions, clinically significant drug interactions are not anticipated.
Missed dose
If a dose is missed, it should be applied as soon as remembered. However, if it is almost time for the next application, the missed dose should be skipped, and the regular dosing schedule resumed. Do not apply a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Overdose
Topical overdose is unlikely due to the presentation in a metered pump. Accidental oral ingestion may lead to systemic effects associated with ivermectin overdose, which could include dermatological reactions, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, urticaria, and hypotension. In case of accidental ingestion, seek immediate medical attention or contact a Poison Control Center.
Storage
Store Soolantra at room temperature, between 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Excursions are permitted between 15°C and 30°C (59°F and 86°F). Do not freeze. Keep the tube tightly closed and out of sight and reach of children.

Reviews
Clinical studies and post-marketing surveillance demonstrate that Soolantra is generally well-received by patients and dermatologists for its efficacy in reducing inflammatory lesions. Many users report a noticeable improvement in their skin’s condition within several weeks of consistent use. Patient satisfaction often centers on the cream’s ease of use, tolerability, and the visible reduction in papules and pustules, contributing to a clearer complexion and reduced skin sensitivity associated with rosacea flare-ups.
